Since January 2014 in Oregon, adults with household incomes lower than 400% of the Federal Poverty Level or ‘FPL’ might be eligible for a tax credit via the Affordable Care Act. This strict 400% of FPL limit remained true through the end of 2020.
In 2021, the American Rescue Plan ACT was passed. Starting in March of 2021, Oregonians who make more than 400% of the FPL may now qualify for a tax credit. This is a temporary change and eligibility for tax credits based on higher incomes is slated to end on December 31, 2024.
Up until now, income in relation to the FPL was the main factor in determining tax credit eligibility. Now, your age, the number of people applying for coverage, and your income play a more important role in tax credit determination.
This means that under the new rules, the older you are, the more you can earn & still qualify for a tax credit.
